Choir

Singing in the choir is an important and rewarding ministry.  All voices are needed, high and low, male and female.  Any choral background would be beneficial, but not necessarily required.

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest with distributing Holy Communion at all Masses on Sunday and weekdays.  Parishioners are invited to join this ministry that Pope Paul VI called “an important office of immense love”.

Ministers of the Eucharist should be:  sincere Christians, have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, and foster their own devotion to the Eucharist.  People interested in becoming ministers are required to attend a half-hour training session to become familiar with the sacristy and sanctuary.  Generally, you will minister one Sunday a month.

Home Visit Eucharistic Ministry

This is a shared ministry of laity and clergy who reach out to fellow parishioners who are unable to attend Sunday Liturgy.  It is a wonderful way to serve the church in the expression of God’s love and care.  Our Home Visit Eucharistic ministers bring Holy Communion to those parishioners who are confined to their home.  The visit also extends the concern of the parish and helps to lessen the isolation and loneliness often felt by the recipient.

If you are aware of anyone who is homebound and wishes to receive pastoral care from the parish, please contact Jodi Hatter, Home Visit Coordinator or call the Parish Secretary at 636-321-0002, Opt. 1, ext. 10.

Lectors/Commentators

Our lectors and commentators are involved in an important ministry at Immaculate Conception.  The lectors vocalize the readings and the commentators say the petitions and read any special letters.  One person could do both positions, but we try to use a two person team.  Parishioners are assigned by week (1st, 2nd, 3rd Sunday, etc.) and by Mass time.

Initial training is provided and periodically Lector Workshops are scheduled.  It’s the obligation of a lector to make every effort to attend these workshops.  Lector workbooks are available to help them prepare for the delivery of God’s Word with respect, dignity and meaning.  Lectors should have a good strong voice and be able to project God’s Word meaningfully.

Liturgy Committee

The Immaculate Conception Liturgy Committee’s commission is to prepare the Liturgy for all Sunday and special Mass schedules for our parish.  Father Paul is our spiritual guide.  Anyone who’s involved with the various ministries that touch our Liturgy is encouraged to attend the meetings, which are held the third Tuesday of each month through the school year.  Volunteers who have a strong desire to participate in preparing the Liturgy are welcome.

Liturgy of the Word – Radio Ministry

The Parish produces a 15 minute radio program called “God’s People Sharing God’s Word” every Sunday morning on Radio station KJFF, 1400 AM, out of Festus Missouri.  The program is a presentation of the weekly Mass readings and a short reflection on the readings.  The program is aired each Sunday morning at 10:05 am and can also be heard on the stations web page using streaming audio.  If you are interested in participating in this presentation contact Greg Wise in the Parish Office.

Prayers of the Faithful

Is God calling you in some way to help the Immaculate Conception Parish, but you just don’t know how?  Did you know that lay people in the Parish write our Prayers of the Faithful (petitions) each week?  It is a very loving and Spirit filled way to answer God’s call.  There are guidebooks and reference material available to assist you in writing these prayers and tying them to the Scripture readings.  This is another way for parishioners to be actively involved in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass each week.  If interested in writing the Prayers of the Faithful, please call Deacon Brad.

Ushers

Ushers perform the following jobs:  greet people when they come to Church, help people find seats, collect the Offertory, hand out bulletins after Mass and check the pews after Mass for any trash.  Ushers are asked to arrive fifteen minutes prior to Mass and stay five to ten minutes afterwards.  There are no regularly scheduled meetings to attend.
